Coaching Philosophy

leaf

“My acting is grounded in the work of Lee Strasberg (Actors Studio), Uta Hagen (HB Studio) and Kristin Linklater (Linklater Voice) and I am a Designated Linklater Voice Teacher (DLT). I’m grateful to the master coaches who have shared their wisdom, training and passion with me - Marie Mumford (acting), Robert Barash (original member of the Actors Studio Directors Unit - acting), Samantha Langevin (acting), David Smukler (voice) and Kristin Linklater (voice).

Through improvisation, exploration, voice and technique exercises, I guide you to physically, emotionally and vocally embody the characters you create, so that they are real human beings - passionate, strong, vulnerable and full of hope. My approach is practical, tactile, imaginative and creative which allows you to be present, dynamic and exciting in every role.

Solid technique provides the structure that supports you to be free, inspired and truthful in your acting!”

- Heather Dick

"My students have said..."

"Working with Heather over the last couple of years has allowed me to open my voice and body in ways that I didn’t think were possible. Heather’s empathy, depth of knowledge and unwavering commitment to discovery and play provided me with a safe place to grow as an actor and a person."

- Mary Thomas, Voice & Acting Student

"Heather was fantastic to work with. She really helped me build characters from the ground up by making me comfortable with my voice and physicality. As well as finding ways to experiment with characters, she has an eye for what can be explored and developed within an actor. She is an endlessly patient teacher with her students' best interest at heart."

Voice Coaching

I’m passionate about helping you free your voice and discover the power inside of you.

When I was first introduced to Linklater voice work, I had no idea how profoundly it would affect, not only my acting career, but also my life. Freeing my voice has freed me to trust my instincts and to be more courageous in everything I do. I bring more of my ‘self’ to my acting with greater honesty, more authenticity and a passion that comes from deep in my heart. My voice is an open window through which the rich emotional lives of my characters are revealed.

I’m very honoured to be a Designated Linklater Voice Teacher and to have been in the first group of teachers to designate at Kristin’s new Voice Centre in Orkney, Scotland in 2014. Thank you, Kristin, for showing me how to live my life fearlessly.
